Liturgy for the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, Year B (Mark)

Call to Worship

One: Come, let us unite in awe before the Creator of the cosmos.

All: We come with wonder and reverence for the Divine artistry that adorns our world.

One: Let us lift our hearts in jubilant praise for the honor bestowed upon us as God has entrusted us to care for creation.

All: We celebrate the profound significance of our place in this magnificent world.

One: Open our eyes to the beauty and purpose that infuse every moment.

All: We are eager to experience the grace and majesty that shape our lives and the world around us.

One: God is creative, mighty, brilliant, and loving.

All: God is worthy of our praise.

Call to Confession

We confess we are limited, God, and we often limit what you can do. We believe you can’t help, can’t love, or can’t transform us, someone else, or a particular situation. How can we think so lowly about the High and Holy One? Forgive us. Open our minds to new ideas and our hearts to new ways of living so that we may live lives of daring faith and abundant joy.

One: Lord may your name be glorified in us and through us. We ask this through Christ Jesus, your only begotten son. It is he who is our Lord and our Savior, our brother and our friend.

Assurance of Pardon - Hebrews 2:10-11

It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many children to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings.  For the one who sanctifies and those who are sanctified, all have one Father. For this reason, Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

Friends, this is the good news!

All: Thanks be to God!

Prayer of Illumination

Heavenly Father, we come before you with open hearts and minds, eager to receive your guidance as we explore your word. Illuminate our understanding with the light of the Holy Spirit, that we might grasp the truths you have for us today. Remove any shadows of doubt or distractions that may hinder our hearing. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Teacher and Savior. Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

Creator God, you made all things, and all things belong to you. Thank you for entrusting so much to us. We now return to your care our offerings and ask that you use them to continue your restorative work in the world. Amen.

Liturgy for the 21st Sunday after Pentecost, Year B (Mark)

Call to Worship

One: Come, all who feel the weight of silence, who seek God but wonder if they are heard.

All: We come, longing for God’s presence, listening for that loving voice.

One: When God feels distant, we are not abandoned. God is near to the brokenhearted and listens to our cries.

All: We come with hope, trusting in the Lord’s faithfulness, even when we cannot see.

One: Let us draw near to the One who holds us in our waiting, the God who promises to never leave nor forsake us.

All: We come to worship the God of mercy and grace, who meets us in the silence and carries us through the storm.

Prayer of Confession

Gracious and loving God, we confess that in moments of doubt and despair, we have questioned your presence. When life feels overwhelming, it's hard to do what we know is best for us. We have sought comfort in things that are bad for us in the long term. Forgive our impatience, fear, and failure to lean into you in times of need. Restore our hearts, renew our faith, and increase our readiness to trust in you, so that we may walk in your light and trust in your love.

One: Lord may your name be glorified in us and through us. We ask this through Christ Jesus, your only begotten son. It is he who is our Lord and our Savior, our brother and our friend.

 Assurance of Pardon

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”(Hebrews 4:16)

Friends, this is the good news!

All: Thanks be to God!

 Prayer of Illumination

Gracious God, we pray for our minister as he preaches. He has prepared in hope; let him preach with conviction. As you have guided him in study, grace him in delivery that your Word may go out and your good news be heard. Be with us as we hear. Give us ready hearts to hear your message and live it out with the help of your Spirit. Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

God, you are our Creator and Lord. All we are and have belongs to you. You have abundantly given to us, so we give of what we have so that others may be helped. May your name alone be glorified in the fruit of our labors together. Amen.

Liturgy for the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, Year B (Mark)

Call to Worship

One: Come, all who wonder at the mysteries of creation, who look to the skies and seas and marvel at their depths.

All: We come, awed by the beauty of the earth and the vastness of wisdom beyond our understanding.

One: Though we may not grasp the full measure of these works, the One who laid the foundations of the world calls us to trust in daily provision and grace.

All: We come, seeking God who commands the stars and the seas, who breathes life into all that exists, who has been revealed in the Scriptures and in Jesus Christ.

One: Let us lift our hearts to the Lord God Almighty, our Savior and Lord.

All: We come to worship the God of all creation and life, who holds all things together in love and power.

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God, we come before you in humility, acknowledging that like the disciples, we often seek our own honor and forget the call to serve. We confess our desire for recognition, power, and comfort, when you have called us to walk a path of humility, sacrifice, and love.

Empower us to embrace the call to serve rather than be served, to give rather than receive, and to trust your will over our own ambitions. Shape our hearts to reflect the compassion and obedience of Christ, our eternal High Priest, who leads us into your grace and mercy. (personal prayer)

One: Lord may your name be glorified in us and through us. We ask this through Christ Jesus, your only begotten son. It is he who is our Lord and our Savior, our brother and our friend.

Assurance of Pardon - (Hebrews 5:9)

Having been made perfect, Jesus became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him.

Prayer of Illumination

Creator of all things, you who laid the foundations of the earth and command the morning, we come before you in awe of your wisdom and power. As we open your Word, grant us humble hearts to listen. May your voice speak through the noise of our world and the questions in our hearts. Open our minds to understand the mysteries beyond our knowing, and open our spirits to receive your truth with faith. Guide us by your light, that we may walk in your ways and see the world as you see it.

Amen.

Prayer of Dedication

God of all creation, from whom all things come and to whom all things belong, we dedicate these gifts and offerings to your service. Just as you sustain the earth and fill it with life, so too may you take what we offer and use it to nurture faith, hope, and love in this world.

We offer not only our resources, but our hearts, hands, and minds for your work. Bless and multiply our efforts, that through our dedication, your name may be glorified and Your kingdom made known.

Amen.

Remove any barriers that obscure our view of your truth and help us to grasp the depth of your wisdom and grace. May your Word penetrate our souls, bringing clarity, conviction, and renewal. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, we pray. Amen.

Creator and Redeemer, Loving God, accept our humble offerings and our commitment to live according to your will. Guide us in our endeavors, and help us to use our gifts and talents to serve others and advance your kingdom. May our actions and words reflect your love and grace, and may we be instruments of your peace and justice in the world.
