The Miracles of Jesus in Order

Introduction

The Gospels record the awe-inducing wisdom of Jesus, his wise teachings, and his profound miracles. The writer of the Gospel of John calls the miracles “sign,” that is, special acts that demonstrate Jesus’ identity as the Messiah who has divine authority over illnesses and matters of faith.

In what follows, I account for the miracles Jesus did in order. I also link to sermons or articles/bible studies that connect to the miracle.

The Miracles of Jesus in Order

1. Jesus Turns Water into Wine at the Wedding in Cana

  • John 2:1-11

  • Jesus performs his first miracle by turning water into wine at a wedding, demonstrating his power and revealing his divine nature.

2. Jesus Heals an Official’s Son at Capernaum in Galilee

  • John 4:43-54

  • Jesus heals the son of a royal official from a distance; He has authority. We see the power of faith.

3. Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit From a Man in Capernaum

  • Mark 1:21-27; Luke 4:31-36

  • Jesus exorcises an unclean spirit from a man in the synagogue; He has authority over spiritual powers!

4. Jesus Heals Peter’s Mother-in-Law Sick With Fever

  • Matthew 8:14-15; Mark 1:29-31; Luke 4:38-39

  • Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law, immediately restoring her health.

5. Jesus Heals Many Sick and Oppressed at Evening

  • Matthew 8:16-17; Mark 1:32-34; Luke 4:40-41

  • Jesus heals a lot of sick and oppressed people, fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah’s healing ministry.

6. First Miraculous Catch of Fish on the Lake of Gennesaret

  • Luke 5:1-11

  • Jesus miraculously provides a large catch of fish, leading Peter and company to recognize his divine power. They follow him.

7. Jesus Cleanses a Man With Leprosy

  • Matthew 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-14

  • Jesus heals a man with leprosy, restoring his health, and changing his life.

8. Jesus Heals a Centurion’s Paralyzed Servant in Capernaum

  • Matthew 8:5-13; Luke 7:1-10

  • Jesus heals a paralyzed servant of a Roman centurion. Jesus praises the centurion’s faith and shows faith transcends cultural boundaries.

9. Jesus Heals a Paralytic Who Was Let Down From the Roof

  • Matthew 9:1-8; Mark 2:1-12; Luke 5:17-26

  • Jesus forgives and heals a paralytic man lowered through the roof by his friends. The power of faith and audacity is showcased as well as Jesus’ authority to forgive sins and his ability to heal.

10. Jesus Heals a Man’s Withered Hand on the Sabbath

11. Jesus Raises a Widow’s Son From the Dead in Nain

  • Luke 7:11-17

  • Jesus raises the only son of a widow from the dead, thus showing compassion and his authority over life and death. This kept the widow out of poverty as her son was able to still provide for her financially.

12. Jesus Calms a Storm on the Sea

  • Matthew 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25

  • Jesus demonstrates his power over nature and calms the disciples as he calms a violent storm on the Sea of Galilee.

13. Jesus Casts Demons into a Herd of Pigs

  • Matthew 8:28-33; Mark 5:1-20; Luke 8:26-39

  • Jesus exorcises demons from a man, sends them into a herd of pigs, and startles the people.

14. Jesus Heals a Woman in the Crowd With an Issue of Blood

15. Jesus Raises Jairus’ Daughter Back to Life

16. Jesus Heals Two Blind Men

  • Matthew 9:27-31

  • Jesus restores sight to two blind men, showing mercy and power and that he cares about the physical lives of others.

17. Jesus Heals a Man Who Was Unable to Speak

  • Matthew 9:32-34

  • Jesus heals a man who was mute and demon harassed/possessed. Jesus restores his speech and demonstrates his power over evil forces.

18. Jesus Heals an Invalid at Bethesda

  • John 5:1-15

  • Jesus heals a man who has been an invalid for almost 4 decades!

19. Jesus Feeds 5,000 Plus Women and Children

21. Jesus Heals Many Sick in Gennesaret as They Touch His Garment

  • Matthew 14:34-36; Mark 6:53-56

  • Perhaps hearing about the brave woman whose hemorrhage was healed by her faith as she touched Jesus’ garment, many people in Gennersaret are healed the same way.

22. Jesus Heals a Gentile Woman’s Demon-Possessed Daughter

  • Matthew 15:21-28; Mark 7:24-30

  • Demonstrating the inclusiveness of all people in his ministry, Jesus heals the demon-possessed daughter of a Gentile woman.

  • Matthew 15:32-39; Mark 8:1-13

  • Seven loaves and two fish is all Jesus needed to feed 4,000!

26. Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

  • John 9:1-12

  • Jesus mixes saliva with mud, plasters a man’s eyes with it, tells him to wash, and heals the man of his blindness, which he had since birth. What does it mean to see the truth?

27. Jesus Heals a Boy With an Unclean Spirit

  • Matthew 17:14-20; Mark 9:14-29; Luke 9:37-43

  • After the disciples are unable to help a boy possessed by a spirit, Jesus heals him.

28. Money for Taxes is Found in a Fish’s Mouth

  • Matthew 17:24-27

  • Jesus instructs Peter to find money in a fish’s mouth to pay the taxes. If only my fishing were that productive.

29. Jesus Heals a Blind, Mute Demoniac

  • Matthew 12:22-23; Luke 11:14-23

  • Jesus restores a man’s sight and speech.

30. Jesus Heals a Woman Crippled for 18 Years

  • Luke 13:10-17

  • Jesus heals a woman who has been unable to straighten up for 18 years. Once again, he demonstrates his compassion and authority over physical ailments.

31. Jesus Heals a Man With Dropsy on the Sabbath

32. Jesus Cleanses Ten Lepers on the Way to Jerusalem

  • Luke 17:11-19

  • One out of ten lepers return to Jesus to thank him for his healing.

33. Jesus Raises Lazarus from the Dead in Bethany

34. Jesus Restores Sight to Bartimaeus in Jericho

35. Jesus Withers the Fig Tree on the Road From Bethany

  • Matthew 21:18-22; Mark 11:12-14

  • Judgment and unfruitfulness come to the forefront as Jesus curses a barren fig tree that withers.

36. Jesus Heals a Servant’s Severed Ear While He Is Being Arrested

  • Luke 22:50-51

  • Peter cuts a man’s ear off in the Garden of Gethsemane and Jesus restores it to its rightful place. Jesus offers peace even in moments of conflict.
