Prayer of Intercession Using Ephesians 1

The liturgy for the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost, year B (Mark) is here.

The sermon on Ephesians 1:3-14 can be found here.

Prayer of Intercession

God who created and formed us in our mother’s womb and who has loved us from the foundation of the world, we come before you in adoration, grateful for your lavish grace and boundless love. Today we have been reminded of our true identity as your beloved children who are chosen and cherished.

Lord, we lift up those who feel lost and rejected. May your gospel and grace reveal to them their worth, beauty, and belonging.

I pray for those struggling with their sense of purpose and belonging. I pray that our congregation will be a place of connection where lasting memories and friendships are made. Help us to consider one another. Transform our mindset as needed, so that Sunday morning would not be an event but an opportunity to connect deeply with others as well as with you.

For those who are broken and weary, burdened by mistakes. May your forgiveness and redemption cleanse them and free them from guilt and shame. Help them to see themselves through the water as holy and blameless, redeemed and forgiven.

As we look into the water of baptism, may we see our old selves washed away and our new selves, beloved by You, revealed. Guide us through every season of life, and let Your grace lead us to become more and more of our true selves in Christ.

We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus, our Redeemer and Savior, and now pray together the prayer he taught us to pray: “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.” Amen.
